White River Outdoor Excursions
East Fork White River - Sparksville to Lawrenceport
This is the wild section of the East Fork White River. Wildlife is abundant, and there is even
the possibility of seeing a river otter along this stretch of river. Seeing other people on the
river is a rarity through the week. The fishing and backwater oxbows make for interesting
side excursions.

This section takes about 6 1/2 hours to float, so pack accordingly. MHAO can pack a lunch
and drinks in a cooler for paddlers. There are numerous sandbars for taking a break and
picnicking. The sand is peculiarly white along this fork of the White River, which may be one
factor for its name. The sandbars are one reason it is one of our favorite stretches of stream
in Indiana.

This stretch of river never gets too low to float, and seldom gets too high to float. It is very
reliable and the sandbar camping is also good in the summer. Be sure to gather firewood to
keep mosquitoes at bay through the night. Sparksville to Bedford is a fantastic 2 day float trip.
